DTM's

The DTM owes its popularity with fans and drivers to the fascination exuded by the DTM cars. The rich sound of the V8 engines, power galore, as well as a maximum of safety are part and parcel of the concept of these vehicles. From the outset, the series’ objective was to deliver fascinating motorsport at a favourable cost-performance ratio. A clever concept with standard components like the gearbox, brakes, rear wing profile and prop shaft as well as a ban on costly materials and electronic driving aids ensure that this objective is met.

The DTM regulations prescribe that all cars be fitted with four-litre V8 engines having a cylinder bank angle of 90 degrees. During the entire season a maximum of three engines, which are sealed, may be used per two DTM contenders.

Turbo charging is prohibited, and two air restrictors, each with a diameter of 28 mm, prevent excessive loads on the engine. Nevertheless, the DTM power plants from Audi and Mercedes-Benz deliver an impressive output of approximately 480 hp.

At the beginning of the season the basic weights were tentatively prescribed as follows: current generation vehicles weigh in at 1,050 kilograms, cars from the 2007 season tip the scales at 1,040 kilograms, 2006-spec vehicles have a weight of 1,030 kilograms (tentatively). The respective vehicle weights include the driver in complete racing gear. A carefully devised handicap system for ballast creates equality of opportunity between the DTM manufacturers and the vehicles from the various model years.

For optimum safety, the cockpit has an integrated carbon fibre safety cell.

Races also feature: Mandatory Pit Stops – Pit Stop Penalties – Points System similar to F1 – Race Interruption & Safety Car Deployment – Standing Start & No Team Orders!

They’re probably the loudest & noisiest car to grace the Brands Hatch Circuit, so come prepared.
