British Touring Car Championship
The British Touring Car Championship with a heritage dating back to Boxing Day 1957 with a first event here at Brands Hatch, the rational being to provide a competition arena for current production cars. However, since the start the rules and regulations appear to constantly change!
The following manufacturers participate (note the BTCC race wins in brackets!): Alfa Romeo (9),
Audi (15), BMW (54), Ford (219), Honda (71), Mazda (4), MG (11), Mitsubishi (3), Nissan (25), Peugeot (0), Proton (0), Renault (38), SEAT (43), Toyota (13), Vauxhall (119), Volvo (21).
Quite simply some fantastic cars, with fast furious & often close up racing; a most popular event with Hospitality over subscribed for the two Brands Hatch events of 2008!
In 2009, the BTCC will also achieve a first when it becomes the first motor racing championship in history to impose engine emissions limits, driving them down to those of competing cars’ showroom counterparts.
A grid of 30 cars line up, being from manufacturers with massive budgets (to £3m) and the ‘Privateer’ with at least £200k. In recent years the latter have contributed and won on numerous occasions defying all the odds of the massive financial budgets found by manufacturers!
Despite ITV4 broadcasting all the action live on the Sunday race day, there can be no better place than trackside to take in the atmosphere, smell & sheer indulgence e of the BTCC competitors; in fact the entire event makes for great hospitality be it on an individual or exclusive basis.
The Italian, Fabrizio Giovanardi (pictured) is the current BTCC Champion a feat he repeated from 2007; racing a Vauxhall Vectra VXR.
